Unless you are very good at home improvement projects, you will not even attempt the project alone, and will enlist the help of a construction firm. By visiting your local swimming pool suppliers you'll get an initial idea of the cost of the build and the time scale. These plans will have to be submitted for approval as any main construction work you take out on your land.

Once your plans to build a swimming pool have been accepted after that you can begin the excavation work for your pool. Initially the site will be cleared and levelled and the formation of your pool will be painted on the ground. With a paint line around the approximate perimeter of your pool, then the diggers could then start their work; based on the dimensions of the pool, the initial dig will take one to two days.

Once the pool is dug, after that it is time to introduce the plumbing system and electrics. This actually should only be attempted by professional, as well as trenches would be dug to lay essential pipe work. Simultaneously, suction and return lines as well as vacuum lines will be introduced. There is also the option to put in lines for heating the pool, as well as for water features at this point. Once this stage is complete, the constructor will move on to the stage generally known as rebar. It is the introduction of steel and bailing wire in a criss cross design. This stage normally takes a day for an experienced crew.

When the pool is reinforced with the criss-cross mesh of rebar, it could then be filled up with concrete. Gunite or shotcrete are utilized at this stage, as well as with the application, your swimming pool will finally start to take shape. The concrete mix would be pumped to the pool through a pipe and once in place, your would be required to wash down your pool every day in order to finish the expansion technique of the concrete before it sets; the particular pool structure will absorb lots of water in this interesting process.

When the concrete mix has set and is firmly in place, after that you can begin to tile your swimming pool and add water features, benches and jump rocks. With the introduction of the tiles, your pool will actually start to take shape. After the tiling is finished, all that is left is to place down the decking as well as installation of water pumps etc. At this stage, lights and other features will be installed, making your pool almost ready for use. At this stage, we're almost able to fill our pool and start to enjoy our new construction. All that is left is to clear up the site and get your garden or back yard looking itself again instead of such as building site. Once finished, you must keep in mind to follow the cleaning instructions for your pool and keep it clean and with the correct levels of chemicals in order for it to be safe to use.
Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/home-and-family-articles/swimming-pool-design-construction-information-4527485.html

About the Author

To find out more about swimming pool construction, visit ==> Swimming Pool Construction

So Just How Do Pharmaceutical Drugs Get In Drinking Water?
Author: Ray Hamilton

The question of how do pharmaceutical drugs get in drinking water is being asked more and more these days as they are turning up in samples across the country. The answer may surprise you.

It is partly us, through the increasing use of prescription drugs and partly the pharmaceutical industries which dump huge amounts into the rivers and waterways from which we get our supply.

So how do pharmaceutical drugs get in drinking water from us? The fact is we don't metabolize all of the meds we take, so they pass through our body and are flushed down the toilet and into the system.

Industry also legally and illegally dumps tonnes of them each year adding to the contamination.

The scary part is that the federal government doesn't require any testing and hasn't set safety limits for drugs in our drinking water, and most makers of home filtration systems and bottled water companies don't even test for it!

So in many samples taken around the country antibiotics, mood stabilizers, growth hormones and sex hormones were found alongside the regulars like herbicides and pesticides.

Now we know the answer to how do pharmaceutical drugs get in drinking water, the important thing is how to get rid of them. There is only one type of system that can do it effectively and is recommended by the US EPA.

Activated carbon block filters and the very best have a multi-stage process and ion exchange to remove 99.9% of all the contaminants to keep you safe, a feat unequalled in the industry.

They leave you with only great tasting healthy water, free from any of the worry.

Visit my website today if you would like to learn more about the types of water filtration systems that I personally recommend and use.

About the Author:

Discover the best home water purifier today.

Ray Hamilton is a dedicated advocate and researcher of the incredible benefits of safe, clean healthy water. Discover which products Ray recommends after extensive research.

Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - So Just How Do Pharmaceutical Drugs Get In Drinking Water?

Cheap Flood Insurance Quotes – Protect Your Home From Flood Damage
Author: Ricky Lim

We all want to stretch our wallets. Here you will find out how bad it gotten and how to fix it.

Drinking water treatment by the municipals is out of date and doesn't seem to be effective any more, especially against the new synthetic chemicals like pharmaceuticals in the supply nowadays. In fact a recent study showed that we have over two thousand toxic chemicals including herbicides, prescription drugs, lead and chlorine.

One of the worst drinking water contamination offenders is actually chlorine, the very toxin used to disinfect it. You have a 93% higher chance of getting cancer if you use chlorinated water compared to those who don't, and up to two-thirds of the harmful effects of chlorine are due to inhalation and skin absorption while showering.

This just shows how drinking water treatment is failing us and that current techniques are not enough. However, as only a tiny percentage is used for drinking purposes the municipals say it is not cost effective for them to make it all clean, but as you can see, showering and bathing puts us at risk too.

With this situation likely to get worse, we need to carry out our own drinking water treatment at home like millions of other people have now discovered. Care must be taken when selecting to ensure your water will be safe and clean.

The only systems to remove 99.9% of all the contaminants are activated carbon filters with a multi-stage process and ion exchange. The reverse osmosis ones still let many of the harmful synthetic toxins through and also demineralized the water and so are best avoided.

The result is great tasting healthy water as it should be, free from toxins but with essential trace minerals like calcium left in, making drinking water contamination a thing of the past.

Visit my website today if you would like to learn more about the types of water filtration systems that I personally recommend and use.

About the Author:

Discover the best drinking water treatment today.

Ray Hamilton is a dedicated advocate and researcher of the incredible benefits of safe, clean healthy water. Discover which products Ray recommends after extensive research.

Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - Drinking Water Contamination—Discover The Real Truth

Essential Equipment Used For Pools
Author: nlwest21

Anybody who has swimming pool knows the quantity of work that is needed to keep it well preserved and useful. But then they are not as expensive as they used to be. In the days gone by, it was only the top cream of society who could afford a hot tub. Nowadays, even the middle class families can afford one or they can frequent the sauna shops in their local neighborhood. But if you buy a hot tub or spa it will not only cost you thousands of dollars but you need to spend to maintain it as well. A hot tub cover or spa cover is comparatively very cheap in order to be able to maintain you hot tub or spa and keep it free from dirt and leaves and bugs especially if it is out of doors.

If you have gone through all the trouble of buying a hot tub and have set you mind on spending time and energy to maintain it, then it would seem very silly if you ignore the need to have a hot tub cover so as to protect your hot tub and keep it running for a longer period of time. The spa cover is just a plain cover that tightly and completely covers your hot tub or spa without leaving any gaps so that no debris can get inside and spoil the filters and pumps of your hot tub. There are quite a few options available to you when you shop for one of the hot tub covers.

You can go by the traditional method and buy a factory made spa cover that is manufactured to fit any hot tub or spa the size of your spa. In most cases this should suffice as the factory made hot tub cover is normally well built and long lasting. This should be good enough if your hot tub is indoors or inside an enclosed porch where there are less chances of debris getting inside and damaging the heating system of your hit tub along with its filters and jets.

But in cases where your spa is placed out of doors, it is certainly well worth it to spend some more and get a custom hot tub cover made to cover your hot tub perfectly. Outside the hot tub or spa will be subjected to sun, wind and rain that can all contribute to damaging your tub and there are plenty of little things that are just waiting to get inside. It could be leaves, twigs, debris, bugs, frogs and other small animals that could get inside. Also, a custom spa cover normally fits even more tightly so that your little children can be safe from it even if they might be left unattended even for a short while. Leaves, pine cones and insects can clog the drain and turn the water into a dirty brown so make sure you use a spa cover and enjoy your soak in clear and clean water.
About the Author:

So if you are looking to buy a hot tub cover visit us now! No one ever thinks about the possibility of there being harmful substances in drinking water. Most people would be very shocked to discover that there are prescription drugs in drinking water.

Prescription drugs? In the water that many people drink on a daily basis? The idea sounds completely bizarre. Yet, there are small amounts of drugs in the drinking water that can be found at any given time. Studies have shown that prescription drugs can be found in drinking water even after it has gone through treatments.

Keep in mind that the discovery of prescription drugs in drinking water is nothing new. In fact, scientists have known for over a decade that a very small percentage of our water supplies contains various types of drugs.

Antibiotics and hormones are just a few of the many different types of prescription drugs that can be found in drinking water. How do these drugs all find their way into the water supply? There are many people who flush their medications down the toilets, while others take the medications and then later release them through their urine.

At this time, experts are unable to agree on whether or not drugs in the drinking water will cause adverse health side effects. Many feel that the prolonged absorption of prescription drugs will cause side effects, some feel that the amounts found in drinking water are too minimal, and others feel that there isn't enough research to tell.

If you want to avoid prescription drugs in drinking water, your first reaction may be to boil the water. This seems like a very logical way to get rid of the prescription drugs. Keep in mind, however, that this will not actually eliminate the drugs from the water.

Your second reaction may be to drink bottled water instead of tap water. Unfortunately, most bottled water is not any less harmful. The reason is because there are not any standards for the quality of bottled water. Another reason is because bottled water often comes from the tap.

The best way to protect yourself from prescription drugs in drinking water is to consider getting a water filter. There are various different types of ways to filter water like reverse osmosis or a charcoal system to reduce levels of drugs. Those food substances which are the most wholesome and healthful are the ones to be chosen, but proper choice cannot be made unless the buyer knows of what the particular food consists and what it is expected to do. To aid in the selection of food, therefore, it is extremely necessary to become familiar with the five substances, constituents, or principles of which foods are made up; namely, water, mineral matter, or ash, protein, fat, and carbohydrate. A knowledge of these will help also in determining the cooking methods to adopt, for this depends on the effect that heat has on the various substances present in a food. Of course, so far as flavor is concerned, it is possible for the experienced cook to prepare many dishes successfully without knowing the effect of heat on the different food constituents; but to cook intelligently, with that success which makes for actual economy and digestibility, certain facts must be known concerning the food principles and the effect of dry and moist heat on foods.

Water.--Of the various constituents that are found in the human body, water occurs in the largest quantity. As a food substance, it is an extremely important feature of a person's diet. Its chief purpose is to replenish the liquids of the body and to assist in the digestion of food. Although nature provides considerable amounts of water in most foods, large quantities must be taken in the diet as a beverage. In fact, it is the need of the body for water that has led to the development of numerous beverages. Besides being necessary in building up the body and keeping it in a healthy condition, water has a special function to perform in cooking, as is explained later. Although this food substance is extremely essential to life, it is seldom considered in the selection of food, because, as has just been mentioned, nearly all foods contain water.

Mineral Matter.--Ranking next to water in the quantity contained in the human body is mineral matter. This constituent, which is also called ash or mineral salts, forms the main part of the body's framework, or skeleton. In the building and maintaining of the body, mineral salts serve three purposes--to give rigidity and permanence to the skeleton, to form an essential element of active tissue, and to provide the required alkalinity or acidity for the digestive juices and other secretions.

The origin and distribution of these mineral substances are of interest. Plants in their growth seize from the earth the salts of minerals and combine them with other substances that make up their living tissue. Then human beings, as well as other living creatures, get their supply of these needed salts from the plants that they take as food, this being the only form in which the salts can be thoroughly assimilated. These salts are not affected by cooking unless some process is used that removes such of them as are readily soluble in water. When this occurs, the result is usually waste, as, for instance, where no use is made of the water in which some vegetables are boiled. As is true of water, mineral matter, even though it is found in large quantities in the body, is usually disregarded when food is purchased. This is due to the fact that this important nutritive material appears in some form in nearly all foods and therefore does not necessitate the housewife's stopping to question its presence.
About the Author:

Visit the Fruits And Vegetables website to learn about microwave corn on the cob and corn growth.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/food-and-beverage-articles/water-and-mineral-matter-799779.html

Hydrogen As A Fuel Source
Author: Levi Quinn

With the introduction of such things as the air car or biodiesel, it should not be all that surprising that hydrogen is also something that many believe to be a viable fuel source. Hydrogen is familiar to many people as one of the periodic table elements. It is also a natural resource that is a positive alternative to fossil fuel combustion for energy production. Though hydrogen is still not a main source of fuel currently, there is promising study and results proving its efficiency. With further investigation, perhaps hydrogen will be a means of living greener in the future.

There are actually two different ways that hydrogen can be used as fuel. One of these methods involves combining the hydrogen with oxygen in order to create water. Water cars are a whole field of promising study all on their own. Water cars are emission free and fully functional, though not without their drawbacks. The other method of using hydrogen is by combustion. This means that it is combusted within the engine much the same as the combustion that currently takes place with fossil fuels inside an engine. Of course because hydrogen is not a toxic fossil fuel, the emissions are not at all the same.

For awhile the Ford Motor Company had been debating on whether or not to launch a car that ran on hydrogen. They had planned to do so but that plan was later dropped. They decided that it wasn't a risk worth taking at this time. Hydrogen may not be quite ready for the mass market. However, Ford did go on to develop their own hybrid and flex fuel vehicles which have been rather successful. Like many other auto makers, those currently remain the two leading fossil fuel alternatives when it comes to green cars.

At this time it would cost too much to mass produce hydrogen fueled cars. It is unlikely that it would be a worthy investment for either manufacturers or consumers, especially when other options are available at a lower cost. Perhaps some of the problem is that there are so many fuel alternatives being tossed around that it can be difficult to isolate which is truly the best. The fact that hydrogen has to be made also makes it more difficult to obtain. Fossil fuels come straight out of the earth. There is also plenty more research that still needs to be done on hydrogen before we can take full advantage of it globally.

Some experts believe that it will take up to 40 years before hydrogen is ready for the public. Hydrogen is very hard to store in its natural form and instead has to be converted to a liquid form which requires a lot of energy. Also, making it accessible to the public everywhere is a real challenge that will not be overcome in the near future. Hydrogen certainly has its advantages which should be explored further. However, for now it seems that hybrids and flex fuel are the best earth friendly options that are readily available.
About the Author:

Are you putting off reviewing or changing your car insurance coverage? Visit our web site today at Auto Insurance Rates Direct for information on how to determine what coverage you need, then find it at a good price. Ultraviolet systems have been adapted for use by homeowners with private wells that have a high bacterial count. Similarly portable ultraviolet water filters are now available for people who are camping or traveling abroad. But even though Ultraviolet purifiers can reduce bacteria to levels that don't cause illnesses, there are some pathogens that are resistant to UV treatment. They are known as cysts. Cysts are parasites in a very early stage of development that can only be neutralized by boiling or by filtering them out. They are greater than a micron in size. So, any purifier that filters down to at least one micron will remove them. Some of the better kitchen units filter down to a half micron. Depending on where you live and the quality of your supply, you may need both ultraviolet water purifiers to kill common bacteria and sub-micron filtration to reduce cysts. The amount of cysts in the environment depends on the year round temperature, the number of animals that are in the area and the season of the year. In the US, public treatment facilities test for them on an occasional, but not a regular basis. The EPA has said that regular testing is impractical. They warn that at-risk individuals should make every effort to protect themselves from this type of infection. Those that are most at-risk include infants, toddlers, the elderly and those with weakened or absent immune system function. In addition to cysts, many homeowners must worry about the chemicals that are used to kill bacteria and control algae growth in the pipelines. The most popular chemical for this purpose is chlorine, because it is cheap and readily available. Chlorination causes the release of byproducts known as THMs. Exposure to THMs greatly increases the individual's cancer risk. Ultraviolet water purifiers serve some purposes, but like reverse osmosis and distillation devices, they cannot kill cysts, nor can they remove chlorine or THMs. If you do have the need for ultraviolet purification in your home, you should know that recent studies done for the EPA showed that all methods of disinfection cause the production of THMs, even ultraviolet. Other studies have shown that THMs become airborne when chlorinated water is heated for showering, cleaning, cooking or other purposes. Well-insulated homes have some amount of chloroform gas (a known carcinogen and a THM) in the air. So, if you do have ultraviolet water purifiers in your home, it is a good first step to having the cleanest water in your home, especially if you get water from a private well. This is because private well owners are responsible for their own water treatment, not the local water authority. However, be aware that there are better water purifiers available which are capable of removing both chlorine and THMs. Some top of the line kitchen and shower water filters are capable of removing both these type of contaminants.
About the Author:

Want a water purifier that can remove chlorine and THMs? Heavy rainfall, overflow of rivers and streams as well as inefficient drainage systems and pipe leakages may create water damage problems for homeowners. When these things happen, the low-lever areas of the house may experience flooding. In some instances, it is easy for the water levels to decrease. Cases like this only call for drying and cleaning up before the situation turns back to normal. However, there are some incidents wherein the water levels remain stagnant or worse, continue to rise. When this happens, homeowners have to resort to water removal methods in order to get all the water out.

There are many water removal methods available to homeowners. Homeowners may simply scoop out the flood waters using pails and other water containers. When this is not enough, they may use sump pumps to hasten the water removal. Homeowners should also check the source of the flood waters. If pipe leaks are causing it, these leaks should be fixed without delay. Other openings which serve as the entry-point of flood waters should also be blocked and sealed. Clogged drainages should be taken cared of in order to direct the flow of water to its proper place. These steps are important in controlling the water levels.

Water removal does not only entail drying off the affected areas. It also entails a level of responsibility on the part of homeowners to make sure that the drained flood waters do not spill into the grounds. It is important to realize that these flood waters may have come in contact with some chemicals stored inside the house. These waters are basically contaminated and may be harmful to the plants surrounding the house if they are just thrown into the soil. Homeowners should be cautious of this while performing water removal, if they are to be accountable to the damage this may pose to nature.

After the flood waters are disposed off, the windows of the affected areas in the house should be left wide open. This will not only speed up the drying of the floors, walls and furniture during water removal but will also help in getting rid of air pollutants that may be caused by indoor flooding. Excess moisture in the house encourages the spread and reproduction of mold spores and microbacterial spores in the air. If the rooms inside the house are not well-ventilated, these spores will become very harmful to the health of the residents and may even be the cause of various allergies.

Water removal methods must be kept environment-friendly. These steps are very easy to follow and are sure to benefit the homeowners in more ways than one.
Author Resource:- Richard Barthallo discusses important homeowner isses for Freeport, IL water removal and Decatur, IL water removal

Article From ArticleSlide.com

How To Find The Right Drinking Water Filtration System

The procedure for how to find the correct drinking water filtration system does not have to be hard, you just need to learn some things about the different home drinking water filter systems that are on the market today, and from there make the right choice of which particular drinking water filtration type is going to work the best for your family.

Here are the most popular kinds of home drinking water filtration systems out there today.

Looking At Ionized Water Filtration Systems

By far one of the most popular types of drinking water filter systems out there today is the ionized water filter. Today alkaline and acid water is used in a huge number of hospitals and clinics, both for drinking and wound healing instead of expensive drug regimens.

There are many advantages that come from ionized water filters, like the fact that they are healthier than most other types of water filtration systems. They also cost less, which is good because then you don’t have to brake the bank to get clean, fresh drinking water.

Charcoal Water Filters

The charcoal water filters are also very popular. These water filters utilize charcoal derived from coconut husk to use as a filter medium. This works by absorbing impurities as the water goes through, and this form of filter makes up possibly 95% of those in domestic use today, due to the fact that they are so easy to set up and last for a very long time.

If you are wanting an effective drinking water filtration system this is one that you will want to think about, one that will be worth every penny spent.

Reverse Osmosis Filters

The last kind of drinking water filtration system to be talked about here is the reverse osmosis filtration system. This is a water filtration system that uses a semi permeable membrane to filter through osmotic procedure. They take everything out of the water, leaving it clean. These water filtration systems are usually installed right under the sink, and are very budget friendly.

You really should spend some time and put some consideration into this, so that you can choose the appropriate water filter system for your home. Depending on the size of your family and your available budget for instance, factors such as these will play a major role in determining which water filter system you pick. Either way, getting a water filtration system will make sure that you and your family are getting only the cleanest, purest water.

Why Is Water4Gas So Popular?

When an employee isn't performing at their job effectively then they can expect they will no longer have that job soon. You may have noticed that except for local TV in New York, Rudy Giuliani (Julie Annie, Ghouliani, etc) is no longer in the public eye as a hero or a leading politician. Rudy performed so badly in the debates, made such a public spectacle of himself so many times (for instance dressing in drag) and upset so many folks that he ended up as a SNL parody of himself and ultimately had to drop out in disgrace.

Likewise, ingrained patterns of what is acceptable standards for success in a society start to fade out of fashion when people start to discover that these patterns don’ take them where they were told they would. The social system we all learned as kids which asserted that one goes to school, you go to college, get hired by a corporation and you retire in 40 years with a retirement plan and a gift watch from the company was an idea, an expectancy, a standard which went by the wayside as companies failed, as colleges failed to properly educate to the extent that quite a few graduates are functionally illiterate.

Another instance going by the boards is that parents would follow the recommendations of their children's teachers and counselors even to the extent of when their kids would get false labels (ADHD) and be put on powerful psychotropic drugs. But now that parents are finding out about the consequences of these poisons, including school shootings, more and more parents are refusing to follow the demands of psych operatives in the school system and we have a major change happening there.

When destructive programs are laid bare then they get replaced.
Until just a couple of years ago most Americans thought the Federal Reserve was helpful and that taxes were an unavoidable fact of existence.
Now go and ask someone about the Federal Reserve, especially if they have debt or property (the same thing) and see how their opinion has changed. Due to the expose by Aaron Russo and his movie America Freedom to Fascism and Ron Paul and his tremendous influence upon political discussion in America. Because of these patriots and others like Ed and Elaine Brown of New Hampshier and Wesley Snipes and others the Americans are discovering that the Federal Reserves is as Federal as Federal Express, that the federal income tax is unconstitutional and one of the worst scams in history and even the necon GOP candidates are calling for a review of the matter in their platforms.

As for scams, there is one more who's demise has come. One that you can decide to stop being a victim of right here and right now.
When Oil corporations start crumbling because thousands of more and more people every month find out that there are real alternatives to fuel in hydrogen burning systems based on water which save car owners $1000s, help clean the environment instead of destroying it and help their cars operate better... that is another example of a failed system or industry being replaced by a better one.
And one that well overdue.
A vehicle one hundred years ago attained 40% higher fuel efficiency than today. That is criminal incompetence and a huge scam and you no longer need to be the effect of it.
WATER4GAS is providing information for a nominal fee which consumers can use at home to create a small gizmo which infuses hydrogen into the fuel/air mixture that their automobile runs on.
What this does is make smaller particles out of the particles that the system burns as fuel. So the system is able to use a lot more of it.
With WATER4GAS you can minimumly expect to improve your fuel economy by 30-50% or significantly more. With WATER4GAS gasoline is made usable so you can improve your fuel economy.
It also helps make emissions substantially cleaner.
This package of info has been purchased by over NINE THOUSAND people already and happy members number about 99%! So how about you?
Welcome to the revolution!

Steam Showers: Sweat Your Way to Health

Sweating is an incredibly important part of our normal body process to get rid of waste. However, no matter whom you ask, most people would say that sweating is incredibly gross and unattractive, unless it's done in a shower enclosure and immediately rinsed away. It is a problem that sweating has developed such a bad stigma over the years because it is a great way to improve your health. Sweat does two very essential jobs: one, it regulates our body temperature and two, it helps get rid of toxins that are harmful to our body.

Your skin is the largest organ in your body. However, your skin is covered in small openings called pores that absorb things from the environment that are not beneficial for your body. Smog, artificial environments, synthetic clothing, anti-perspirants, and other elements clog up your pores on a daily basis. In order to rid your body of these foreign toxins, you need to sweat these particles out.

If you are not someone who enjoys a long gym session every day, you will need to induce this natural sweating process in another way. The most popular way to do so is to take regular steam showers! These special showers, also known as sweat baths, are exactly what you need to stay healthy. After a few short weeks of daily use, you will feel more energized, your skin will feel softer, and your body will feel rejuvenated.

The sauna is the precursor to this special type of shower. There is evidence that the oldest sauna dates back nearly 2,000 years again to Finland. Today, saunas are still an essential part of Finnish culture. Almost every home has a personal sauna and it is used on a weekly basis by all family members.

It is time for more of the world adopted the Finnish attitude! You need to treat your body to a spa-like experience as often as possible and you will feel refreshed and stress-free in no time. The most appealing aspect of steam showers today, however, is not how wonderful they make you feel nor how much they help you improve your health. It is how affordable they are! You can own your own steam shower for a reasonable price today; check out sites online to find the best discounts!

What's All the Fuss About Home Water Filters?

What's all the fuss about home water filters? Its seems every time you turn around someone is either talking or writing (like me) about the importance of installing one of these water purification systems in your home.

I write about this subject because I have always been a water drinking enthusiast. My picky taste buds have fueled my search for home water filters that deliver a refreshing, sweet-tasting drink of water. However, I never understood, until recently, how using one of these purification systems could have a tremendous impact on my health and well-being.

During my research I have learned that scientific experts have identified over 75,000 different toxic chemicals that have the potential for being present in our water supplies at any given moment. I know that sounds unbelievable, but just consider that the federal government requires water utilities to provide every customer with a detailed report that lists everything that is in their water.

So now that the problem has been officially recognized its easy to see where all the fuss comes from. But just how do water filters work and how do you know which systems are the best? Well, I've examined the more popular systems and have reached some clear conclusions about the home water filters that do the best job.

Reverse osmosis and distillation are popular systems that were developed for industry but then adapted for home use. The problem with these two systems is that they have major drawbacks when it comes to getting rid of a particular type of organic chemical toxins. These toxins include herbicides and pesticides. These two systems also have problems filtering out certain bacterial cysts. These two filtering processes are incompatible with the molecular size of these contaminants.

In order to be effective home water filters, r.o. and distillation need the addition of a carbon filter system to make up for their filtering deficiencies. These filters must be changed on a regular basis to avoid the build up dangerous chemical toxins.

Since these systems are expensive to begin with, it doesn't make sense to add on an additional expense (and inconvenience) when there is a more affordable and effective alternative. But I'll come to that in a moment..

These two filtration systems have another serious drawback that you should be aware of. Reverse osmosis and distillation strip important mineral content out of the water. The natural calcium, magnesium and potassium that is present in water is vital to your good health.

Medical experts have noted the dangers of drinking demineralized water. They caution that small children, whose bodies are still developing, are among the people who most need to be mineral water healthy.

So how do the best water filters work to get rid of most toxins while leaving minerals untouched? Well, this is where the effective alternative comes in. I have found that home water filters based on a new technology called multi-stage filtration comprehensively purify the water without removing minerals.

In addition to the health and safety benefits that multi-stage filtration provide, you can find a variety of water purification appliances designed to meet every household need. Multi-stage filtration comes in the form of affordable kitchen faucet, shower and whole home water filters. You will also find these appliances easy to install and maintain.

Make no mistake. When it comes to your health and well-being, the fuss about home water filters makes sense. Chlorine and Bromine have been in use since almost day one. Both have their advantages. They kill everything. The down side is also that they kill everything. By that I mean that Chlorine and Bromine are both caustic chemicals. That is both how they function and what makes them less desirable. Not only do they kill germs and bacteria but they are harmful to your skin, hair, bathing suits, spa jets, pump impellers, pets and environment. With the heightened awareness of the environment and our own physical health, there has been a wide variety of alternatives to the old standards.

Minerals can be used to treat the spa water with less harmful effects. First, Copper can be used to treat your water and keeps stuff from growing in your water. It is a lot safer for your skin, hair and health, and won’t cause premature break down of your pump and jet components. Still, because it does a good job of killing things you need to use care when you empty your spa. Some areas have banned using copper to treat water because if it does end up in the water shed it will kill fish and algae.

Another popular choice is Silver and zinc. I would just recommend sticking with the liquid based versions. You should never use anything directly in the filter area of the spa because you do not want the risk of anything being sucked into the water pump.

Ozone can also be effective in water treatment. It works by exposing ultra violet light to air which forms an energetic oxidizer. It destroys algae, viruses and bacteria. Again you should know how to use your system properly. Avoid over exposure to ozone while using the spa. No ozone bubbles should be entering the spa during occupancy. Also you should not be able to smell ozone while you are in the spa.

One thing that a lot of spa owners forget about is checking your spa water pH. Maintaining the proper pH level can greatly improve the effectiveness of the water treatment. Spa water that is not properly balanced can cause irritation to eyes, and mucous membranes. Just because you keep a handle on your chemical treatment, do not get lazy about checking the pH.

Finally, circulation of the water. Stagnant water, especially warm stagnant water is a breeding ground for life. Regular circulation of the water for significant periods of time will reduce the need for chemicals and increases the effectiveness of the spas filtration. It is better overall for your spa pump to run for three to four hours at a time for two to three times per day as opposed to running for thirty minutes at a time ten times per day. If your spa only runs for thirty minutes it does no have enough time to properly filter all the spa water.

The bottom line is that yo want to be able to enjoy your spa for years to come. However like your car, regular maintenance can have a profound influence on that. If you maintain your car, change the oil, replace the filters, rotate the tires, you stand a much better choice of enjoying your vehicle with fewer unpleasant surprises. The same goes for your spa.

Source: Free Articles

Hydrogen The Future Energy Sources For Fuel

Burned or used in fuel cells, hydrogen is an appealing option for powering future automobiles. This nontoxic gas could serve as a pollution-free energy carrier for machines of many kinds. When it burns, it releases no carbon .dioxide, a potent greenhouse gas.

And if hydrogen is fed into a fuel cell stack a battery like device that generates electricity from hydrogen and oxygen it can propel an electric car or truck with only heat and water as by products. Fuel-cell powered vehicles could offer more than twice the efficiency of today's automobiles. Hydrogen could, therefore, help ease environmental problems, including air pollution and its hazards.

Weight for weight, hydrogen contains three times the energy of gasoline (petrol) but it is impossible to store hydrogen gas as compactly as the conventional liquid fuel. One of the most challenging technical issues is how to efficiently and safely store enough hydrogen onboard to provide the driving range and performance the motorists demand. Feasible storage devices hold sufficient hydrogen to support today's minimum acceptable travel (driving range--almost 500 kms)--on a fuel tank that does not compromise on luggage room. These tanks have to be filled or recharged in a few minutes. Lot many researchers in the U8 Internal Energy Agency are expending considerable effort to overcome these limitations. Infact, 17 governments are committed to advancing hydrogen and fuel-cell technologies. In 2005 the US Department of Energy provide4 $ 30 million to fund the 80 research projects.

A 500 km. minimum driving range is one of the principal operational aims of the auto industry. Engineers believe that a~allon of gasoline is equal,on an energy basis, to a kilogram of hydrogen.(One US gallon is almost 3.8 litres) Whereas today's automobile needs about 20 gallons of gasoline to travel 500 km.,the typical fuel-cell vehicle would need only 8 kilograms of hydrogen. Several automakers have tested about 60 hydrogen -fuelled prototypes and demonstrated driving ranges of 200 to 300 kms.

By 2010 some auto companies expect the first production of fuelcell cars to hit-the road. A hydrogen storage system must carry enough fuel for at least a 500 km trip and also be light enough to haul around a car. For a system weighing 600 kilograms (a reasonable~ size of a vehicle) ,six kgs. would be stored hydrogen. Liquified stored hydrogen can improve it's stored energy density and could be used in cars, it drawbacks notwithstanding. Neverthe less, One world-renowned carmakerBMW is pushing this technology onto the road. The vehicle called HYDROGEN-7 will incorporate an ,internal combustion engine capable of running on either gasoline for 500 Kms.or on liquid hydrogen for 250 kms.

Chemical compaction: to raise energy density scientists have been able to take advantage of the chemistry of hydrogen itself. In it~ liquid phase, hydrogen molecules contain two bound atoms each. But when hydrogen molecules are chemically bound to certain other elements, they can be packed even closer together than in liquid hydrogen.

Some researchers are focusing on a class of substances called reversible metal hydrides, which were discovered by accident in 1969 at the Philips Laboratories in the Netherlands. Investigators found that a Samarium-Cobalt alloy when exposed to pressurized hydrogen gas it would absorb hydrogen, somewhat like a sponge soaks up water. When the pressure was then removed ,the hydrogen within the alloy reemerged in other words, the process was reversible,

In the US, scientists like Jame Reilly and Gary Sandrock, pioneered the development of hydride alloys. This work formed the basis for today's widely used Nickel-Metal hydride batteries. The density of hydrogen in these alloys is 150 % more than liquid hydrogen! Such properties of metal hydrides are well suited to automobiles. Although the current metal hydrides have limitations, many automakers see them as the most viable low-pressure approaching the near future. Toyota and Honda automotive engineers, are planning a so-called hybrid approach in a system that combines a solid metal hydride with moderate pressure (lower than 10,000 psi) ,which they predict could achieve a driving range of more than 500 kms.

Designeer Materials: recent developments in nanoscale engineering have yielded a host of new high-surface-area materials, some with ~ more than 5,000 sq.mt. of surface area per gram of material. Carbon -based materials are mostly light weight and low cost. Over the centuries ,the basic promise -and challenge-of using hydrogen for transportatiQ1has remained fundamentally unchanged. Nevertheless finding a suitable container to store hydrogen in automobiles will soon permit people tp travel across the globe in the next decade without fouling or polluting the sky above us.

--
Archna Gupta is a veteran in the marketing of Internet and writing of the articles on the range of subjects. Ibiza is located in the Mediterranean Sea and is the third largest of the Balearic Islands autonomous community of Spain.

The island rests approximately 80 kilometers off Spain's coast. Ibiza's largest cities are Ibiza Town, Santa Eula, ria des Riu and Sant Antoni de Portmany.

Ibiza is spending approximately 13.5 million Euros or more than 17.3 million U.S. dollars to get fresh water. Spain's Ministry of the Environment is spending this to upgrade the islands water infrastructure.

On the island, three plants produce fresh water for residents and tourists. These plants are in Ibiza Town, Santa Eulalia and San Antonio.

Only certain parts of the island have access to this desalinated water. Some areas of Ibiza still get their water from wells. The problem is that water from these wells has high concentrations of calcium and salt. This is not the best for washing hair, dishes or clothing.

The hard water is also not good for dishwashers and washing machines. The mineral deposits from the water build up in pipes and tanks. It's the same when hard water build up mineral deposits in kettles and coffee machines, which require de-scaling. This is the problem locals and visitors face in certain parts of Ibiza.

The upgrade by The Ministry of the Environment will provide connections to the three desalination plants on the island. Towns and villages on the island will be able to enjoy fresh water. This will make the island even more attractive to visitors who wish to explore this holiday destination who aren't just visiting for the weather in Ibiza

Ibiza is not the only area facing water challenges. Las Vegas has a continuing battle on their hands with H2O. Las Vegas has been experiencing droughts in recent years.

A trend that may continue for the near future, it has officials concerned. In 2007, some news reports in the city said that proposed water projects are falling short of what the area will require.

There is also significant population growth in Las Vegas. This is putting a strain on the water supply in itself. Then couple that with the influx of tourists daily, and their water needs. Water levels at neighbouring Lake Mead in Nevada have dropped. In recent years, they are half of what they were seven years ago.

The Southern Nevada Water Authority has spent millions for new pumps to bring water in from the lake. This expenditure doubled the capacity of the second water intake drawing drinking water from Lake Mead.

The Water Authority is also working to pipe in groundwater from White Pine County. The first water will not flow into Las Vegas until 2012.

Las Vegas fears a larger crisis. Officials fear continuing droughts and lack of pipelines bringing in water from sources other than Lake Mead will cause water shortages. They believe the gap in water use and water supply will affect half a million people by 2012.

Worldwide the problem of fresh water is a serious one. Mexico has a problem with clean drinking water. Much of their water supply is contaminated by pollution.

Some areas of this popular tourist country do not have running water. Some areas of Mexico have no sewage service. Tourists often receive warnings not to drink the water in Mexico, to drink bottled water from quality sources instead.

This past March, Cyprus faced their battle with continuing drought. This led them to purchase water from Greece. The country ordered emergency water rationing and imports from Greece.

This was to get a grip on a growing shortage caused by a fourth year of drought. Cyprus saw their reservoir reserves drop significantly. In March, the island's reservoirs were 10.3 percent full. Desalination plants could not cope with the growing demand.

It seems fresh water is the new oil for some areas. It's in great demand and in short supply. It is vital to regions that rely on tourist dollars and euros for economic survival.

It costs money for governments to install the infrastructure for fresh water. To serve citizens and visitors properly, this investment will be necessary in years to come.

About the Author
Ibiza's airport and cheap flight to Ibiza deals are online along with a host of other cheap holidays in Ibiza information.

Convert Your Vehicle To Hydrogen Fuel

Water fuel, hydrogen fuel, whatever you may want to call it all pertains to one thing. Many years ago, people would have been reluctant in using the hydrogen technology but now, it is gaining popularity all over the world particularly in rich countries like the US, Europe, and Canada. If you want to use hydrogen fuel, convert your vehicle now.

The Earth is made up of 75% water and that you learned in your elementary days. With this fact, scientists conducted various studies to prove that water can be a source of fuel energy. Unfortunately, water alone can't be used to power a vehicle. What you need is a conversion tool and an HHO generator. Still, water is an integral part in hydrogen technology.

One of the greatest scientists who studied about the viability of water as source of alternative fuel is Nikola Tesla. Although he had made a lot of discoveries, all his studies were not revealed to the public. Most of Tesla's inventions were futuristic and ordinary individuals can't understand them.

Hydrogen technology is not new and it has been in existence for many years now. Recently, hydrogen powered cars are gaining much popularity. This knowledge brought tension in the market because gas-producing companies will be terribly affected if more hydrogen powered vehicles are manufactured.

On the other hand, the invention of hydrogen powered vehicles has brought much attention to the problems here on Earth like pollution and global warming.

At present, thousands of converted cars are now using water to fuel their vehicles. But of course, you need to convert first your car before you can make use of water to power your car. Will you believe that you can increase mileage from 75-100%? That sounds unbelievable, right? But the facts prove it; in fact, if you try to check online customer testimonials and product reviews, you will read positive testimonials about hydrogen fuel.

Perhaps you've also seen TV interviews about satisfied car owners who are already using hydrogen technology. If you're a car owner and your head hurts badly because of the expensive cost of gasoline, convert your car now. You don't have to take the car to a mechanic because you can either do the conversion on your own or purchase a ready-made HHO generator and conversion tool.

The latter is a bit expensive because it can cost about $800. But once the hydrogen fuel cell technology is installed in your car, you can enjoy many years of driving with reduced gasoline expenditures. Aside from saving massive money, your car will function at its best. It will make your car less noisy and the gears can be shifted smoothly. You will surely enjoy traveling without worries.

So, do you want to be a happy and contented driver too? Use hydrogen fuel, covert your vehicle now. This is a very important decision that you have to make. Anyway, if ever you're not satisfied with the performance of the hydrogen technology, you can readily remove it from your car. If you would like to get started with this sport, there are a few things you need to know. As with any form of outdoor recreation, learning the basics before you begin will make your kayaking adventure much more enjoyable.

Tip 1 - Choose the Right Kayak

Choosing the right kayak is the first step on your adventure. There are many different types out there. The boat that is right for you will depend on your goals as a kayak enthusiast.

First, what type of water will you be using your boat on? Calm water and fast-moving water require different boats. Are you going to paddle by yourself, or will you want someone else with you? How often do you anticipate using your boat? The more often you use it, the more durable you will want the kayak to be.

You can always rent kayaks first to get the feel for the different types that are available. Once you have chosen the right boat, carefully time your purchase. Buying in the off-season will help you get an affordable price. You can also shop online or buy your boat through the classifieds. Before shopping, however, make sure you know what you want. Visit a few showrooms to get an idea of what is available.

Tip 2 - Getting the Right Gear

Other than the boat itself, what do you need to start kayaking? One of the most important pieces of safety equipment that every person in a kayak needs is a PFD, or Personal Flotation Device. These are high-tech life vests that will keep you above water if the boat should capsize. Kayaking requires a Type II or Type V PFD. These are lightweight, fairly easy to put on, and quite fashionable, not like the life vests you are probably picturing.

Typically, the more you pay for a PFD the more comfortable it will be. The more expensive models have softer foam and can be adjusted easier than the cheaper options. If you need to save money, consider buying new.

The other piece of equipment you will need is a kayak paddle. If you can, try out a variety of paddle types. If you do not have this luxury, you will probably be happy with an aluminum shaft adjustable paddle with a flat blade that has blunt or tapered ends as you are beginning your kayaking adventure. After you have learned more about the sport you may want to upgrade your paddle, but this paddle will give you the flexibility you need to paddle in a variety of situations.

Tip 3 - Getting in and out of the Kayak

Now that you have a kayak and your basic gear, you are ready to begin. You take your boat to the river, don your PFD, and suddenly realize you have no idea how to get into the kayak. Here is what you need to know.

If you are in shallow water, dip your paddle into the water and brace it against the side of the kayak to keep it steady. You can also use the dock edge to steady the boat if you are in deep water. Once the boat is steady, sit on the edge of the dock with your legs hanging over the side. Line your feet up evenly with your entry point, and drop the line into the cockpit. Swing one foot and then the other into the cockpit, crouch down, and sit. Grab your paddle, adjust your line so it is out of the way, and you are ready to go. Getting out of the kayak is basically the same, only backwards. Be sure to keep a good hand on your paddle so that you do not lose it.

Tip 4 - Paddle Correctly

Paddling does involve exercise, but it should not be exhausting. Avoid using a motion that is similar to digging into the sand. Instead, lean back in your seat and relax. This not only helps you paddle more efficiently, but it also keeps the boat stable. Hold the paddle in both hands using an over-handed hold. Your thumbs should be underneath the bar. Let your torso make most of the movements. Pull with the arm that is making the downward stroke and push the shaft away with the arm that is making the upward stroke. This sounds complicated, but you will get the rhythm as you practice.

Tip 5 - Be Prepared

There are some things that you need to have ready in order to be safe on the water. Make sure that you have an audible safety signal device clipped to your PFD. Also, be sure that you have a spare paddle, especially if your kayaking trip will be long. Paddles can get lost in deep water, so having a spare is always a good idea. This can be a collapsible paddle if you need to save room.

Before you leave, check the weather and water conditions, not just in your current location, but also at your destination. If a storm is approaching, postpone your trip. This is essential if you are a beginner, because a sudden storm could mean disaster.

A repair kit and first aid kit are also important. Be sure that your repair kit includes some duct tape. Your first aid kit must be contained in an airtight, waterproof container. Finally, pack a flashlight, even if you do not intend to be on the water at night. If you get stranded after dark, a flashlight will keep you safe and help you find your way to shore.

With these tips, you should be as prepared as possible to start kayaking. Remember to go with experienced kayak enthusiasts the first few times you go out, as they can help you with the problems you will face as you learn this exciting sport.

About the Author:

Jay Gaulard writes for a wide selection of websites on various topics. Having a high quality winter cover is one of the most important aspects of good winter protection. It's therefore not surprising that selecting a high quality winter cover is something that should not be done without some careful thought and consideration. If you don't choose the right cover for your pool, the lifespan of your pool could be significantly shortened and you could be making life more difficult for yourself when spring arrives. For maximized winter protection, skirted above ground pool covers are an excellent choice, as they will provide a better fit and better resistance against harsh weather.

Above ground winter pool covers are designed and manufactured specifically to withstand harsh weather and cold temperatures and to prevent your pool from becoming damaged during the winter months. These off-season above ground swimming pool covers are made from strong and extremely durable material such as woven polyethylene, with each and every individual strand providing maximized strength. High quality winter pool covers also feature a triple laminated inner scrim topped by a weather resistant coating. This coating is specially designed to provide resistance against harsh weather and UV damage from sunlight so that the cover will provide protection for your pool year after year.

The great thing about skirted above ground pool covers is that they will fit your pool like a glove for ultimate protection. Skirted covers are first cut to match the exact size and shape of your swimming pool. Then a skirt is sewn on to the main part of the cover to provide an even better fit. Skirted above ground winter pool covers come with a cable and small loops that attach to the pool uprights. The cable can then be run through the loops and the cover, allowing the cover to be safely and tightly secured. Just as pool covers with large overlaps are beneficial when it comes to extra protection, skirted above ground pool covers provide that extra material which makes it easier for the cover to withstand windy and other harsh weather.

When your winter pool cover fits properly, spring or summer openings will obviously go more smoothly. Tightly fitting covers prevent dirt, leaves and other debris from accumulating in and dirtying the water. This means that you will need to do less vacuuming and water straining once the winter is over. Best of all, a cleaner pool as a result of a good winter cover will mean that you can get back to swimming faster when the warmer weather arrives.

Like other high quality above ground pool covers designed to provide winter protection, the best skirted covers feature a black underside. This is an important characteristic to look for because a black underside will prevent light from passing through the cover, thereby inhibiting the growth of algae. The tight weave of the polyethylene fabric also helps to prevent algae growth and will greatly reduce the possibility of dirt and debris getting past the cover and entering the pool water. Not surprisingly, when algae growth is inhibited, it's far easier and faster to open your pool again in the spring, as far less cleaning and effort will be required.

As already mentioned, skirted above ground swimming pool covers can be cut to fit the exact dimensions of your particular pool. So no matter what the size or shape of your pool may be, you can have a winter pool cover that will fit precisely, thereby providing you with the highest level of winter protection for your swimming pool. Perhaps best of all, above ground pool covers from respected and trusted manufacturers are designed to provide quality protection for many years, sometimes for as much as 15 or even 20 years. For the very best protection possible, it's important to follow the installation tips that will come with your cover. Typically uncomplicated and easy to understand, the installation instructions will provide you with simple tips which can greatly increase the effectiveness of your winter cover.

While skirted swimming pool covers can provide your pool with excellent protection and weather resistance, they can still be found for good value. With direct online retailers such as Intheswim.com providing great selections of swimming pool supplies including skirted pool covers, it's possible to find everything you need for winterizing your pool at affordable prices. So if you want maximized winter protection for your above ground swimming pool so you can extend the life of your pool and get back to swimming faster, consider using a skirted above ground pool cover this coming winter.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

About the Author: James Claypool is experienced specialist in pool equipment including skirted winter covers for above ground pools. With warm, soothing water and massaging jets, spas and hot tubs provide an easy way to unwind and to find some relief from the tension and stresses of everyday life. Of course, many purchasers also enjoy the unique social environment that hot tubs create. Whether you want to gather with friends and family or add some extra romance to your relationship with your significant other, spas and hot tubs can provide you with exactly what you need. Best of all, there are many different brands, models and features available on the portable hot tub market so you can select a hot tub or spa that meets all your needs and preferences for the ultimate at-home relaxation.

While just about all portable spas and hot tubs are great for relaxation, it's important that you purchase a model with the specific features and characteristics that will enhance and maximize your enjoyment of your hot tub. For example, if you want to use your portable hot tub as a remedy for arthritic pain, back pain or stiff muscles and joints, the placement of the hydrotherapy jets is an important consideration. You need to make sure that the hydrotherapy jets of your particular model are appropriately placed such that they will target and massage the particular part or parts of your body that you wish to soothe and relief of pain. Adjustable jets are also a good feature to look for, as they will allow for a more customized experience.

Other important considerations to keep in mind when looking at a selection of portable spas are size and seating arrangement. You need to think about how many people will be using your spa and for what purpose. If you have a large family or plan to use your hot tub as a focal point of parties, you will probably want to choose from a selection of portable hot tub that will seat several adults. In other circumstances, a more moderately sized spa may well be suitable for your home and lifestyle.

Luckily, portable spas are available in many different sizes and with many different seating configurations. From models designed to seat three adults to those with a capacity of up to six adults, there are many options to choose from. Naturally, in addition to size, it's also important to take note of the level of comfort provided by the spa's seats. If the seats are not comfortable, your relaxation and enjoyment could be significantly diminished. On the other hand, many portable hot tubs feature contoured seating which is specifically designed to offer maximized comfort which, in turn, maximizes the level of enjoyment you get out of every single one of your hot tub experiences.

In addition to hydrotherapy jets and seating, there are many other features and accessories which can further enhance your entire hot tub environment. For example, top-of-the-line digital controls and in-spa lighting are common amenities that can be found in many portable spas and hot tubs, especially those offered by highly respected manufacturers. Some portable hot tubs also feature waterfalls, which can add points of interest as well as soothing sounds. It's also possible to add additional amenities and features to your spa environment with spa and hot tub accessories. These can include everything from towel racks and drink holders to pillows and cushions, all of which can make portable spas even more relaxing and enjoyable.

Once you choose the perfect spa or hot tub for your home, there are still a few things you need to keep in mind with regards to installation and safety. While most spas are quite quiet, you may not want to place yours too close to a bedroom, depending upon the preferences of you and your family. Also, it's often a good idea to place your hot tub in an area where it will be relatively protected from wind, falling leaves and strong, direct sunlight. In terms of safety, it's vital to ensure that the installation is performed by licensed professionals and that your portable spa or hot tub meets all safety standards. If children live at your home or are likely to visit, a sturdy spa cover with safety locks is a must.

Once you have decided what features and amenities you are looking for, it will be time to find the perfect model at the perfect price. Fortunately, high quality portable spas and portable hot tubs can be found for great value if you know where to look. For example, direct online retailers such as Intheswim.com offer a wide range of excellent models and brands to choose from at very affordable prices. These retailers also offer a great selection of hot tub and spa accessories. Once you have everything you need and installation is complete, you will be ready to begin enjoying hours of fun and relaxation in your very own portable home spa or hot tub.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

About the Author: James Claypool is experienced specialist in pool equipment including portable hot tubs and spas. Many of us are so concerned about being hydrated, that Americans are often referred to as the Hydration Nation. We carry the clear stuff with us everywhere, and everyday. Water is, after all, the essential element in carrying nutrition to our cells, and generating circulation, digestion, respiration and cardiovascular functions which are necessary to sustain life.

How Much is Too Much?

For decades people have followed the 8 plus 8 rule; 8 glasses of water, consumed in 8 ounce glasses or containers, every day. This method of hydrating has always been promoted by doctors and nutritionists; however, recent research now proves that our hydrating needs vary with our activity levels. An active lifestyle requires more hydration than a sedentary amount of movement. Illness also requires an increase in fluids, if fever is present in the body, or some kind of infection. Never drink too much water because it can be deadly. Too much water being consumed when jogging or working out, causes a reduced level of sodium in the body. Reduced sodium causes light-headedness, nausea, and swelling of the body.

The Signs of Too Little

Its important to know the signs of dehydration so that you can avoid becoming ill. The signs include: headache, thirst, fatigue, and dizziness. Many people consume other liquids to keep hydrated. Fruit juices, milk, coffee and tea are frequently substituted for water. Although these fluids do hydrate, many juices have a high level of sugar or fructose corn syrup which contains high calorie content, and the sugar has no nutritional value.

Warm Water Is Best

The best temperature to drink water is at room temperature. Warm water helps the body digest food, distribute medications, and detoxify. However, drinking cold water has no serious ill effects and if that’s the only way to enjoy it, the important point is to hydrate.

Five Facts You Need to Know

Everyone needs information about what is contained in the drinking water in their community. It’s also beneficial to know the value of nutrient enhanced water, and how to carry water with you, safely.

1) Tap water that has been put through a carbon filter to trap the lead contaminates, is just as safe to drink as any bottled water, and has more minerals than most bottled waters.

2) Nutrient enhanced water has too much sugar, usually about 32.5 grams or more, and other additives. The body cannot always absorb liquid nutrients. Read the label to check for the sugar content.

3) Water that sits in plastic bottles collects bacteria and can leach toxic chemicals from the plastic into the water. It is not possible to detect bacteria or chemicals from the taste of the water.

4) For your good health, carry water in safe containers which are made from aluminum, or glass. Plastic bottles never break down in landfills and are having a seriously negative effect on the environment.

Put A Fountain In Your Garden

A great way to spice up your garden is to add a water feature. These can be both soothing and aesthetically appealing. I've found that there's nothing more relaxing than sitting on a bench next to my garden and listening to my fountain while I read a good book or do some studying. Putting in a water feature is fairly easy and relatively inexpensive, and will add immensely to the pleasantness of your garden. Also, the maintenance level is minimal.

Usually, people install fountains for the benefit of the natural ambience it provides. For some reason, being around a gorgeous scene of water gives you a positive energy. This is also good if you practice Tai Chi or some form of yoga or meditation. The constant drone of the water is exactly what most people need to concentrate on what they are doing. Even if you're not into that kind of stuff, just being in a garden with a fountain has a sort of meditative quality to it, even if you're not trying to do so. I recommend it to anyone.

When you first decide to put in a fountain, you need to put great care into picking out one that will go well with the rest of your garden. If you have any other decorations, you want to consider if it goes well with your motif. Does the fountain you're considering stand out in your garden like a sore thumb, or does it look like it was meant to be there? If you're like me, you can't naturally tell whether the fountain will be a good addition to your garden just by looking at it. So my solution was to bring my sister (a natural at fashion design and that kind of stuff) along with a picture of my garden to the store. I was able to get her expert opinion, as well as see for myself what it would look like. By doing this I was able to pick a beautiful rock fountain that goes marvelously with the rest of my garden.

However, I still had a slight problem with supplying my fountain with power. You see, my garden isn't very close to my house. I thought it would look pretty tacky to run an extension cord across my yard, so I had to come up with another solution. I discussed my situation with a Home Depot employee, and he quickly found me the exact solution I needed: an extension cord meant for being buried! All it took was a few hours of digging a small trench across my yard, and I had power to my fountain without an unsightly cord running across my yard. After I got over this little hitch, my fountain plan went beautifully.

So if you're looking for a way to make your garden a more classy and beautiful place to be, I hope you consider installing a fountain. The whole process is surprisingly inexpensive, and I think that you will be very happy with the results. Having a fountain in your garden is not only soothing, but it also adds a lot of character to an otherwise bland garden. Remember, gardens are not just for giving us vegetables! A garden is a place to go when you want to retreat from the outside world and dwell in your own thoughts with no disturbance.

Find tips about how to grow roses and how to grow orchids at the How to Grow Things website.

Article Source: http://www.ArticleBiz.com

Inspecting your Swimming Pool

Inspecting your Swimming Pool

With the varied availability of swimming pool equipment and designs, you have a lot to think about when it comes to safety. Whether you use different types of swimming pool liners, or think about purchasing a new swimming pool toy, there are a lot of pool inspection tips you should consider. It may also help to ask questions at your local swimming pool supply shop, because talking to experts face to face about your swimming pool safety needs can help you in the long run.

Your swimming pool design and capacity

A lot of things depend on your pool's design and capacity. Some of these things include the amount of water treatment chemicals you'll need, the type of liner you should have, as well as the aesthetics of your swimming pool. It's important to calculate the average depth of your pool using this equation: Deep End (feet) + Shallow End (feet) ? 2 = Average Depth. It will help you determine your swimming pool capacity. The swimming pool design you choose will also aid you in buying the proper swimming pool covers that you will need during different seasons. Leaf-catcher covers are effective during summer, fall and spring, while a different swimming pool cover is available for winter. These allow you to keep your pools in top shape despite the seasonal and climatic changes. Almost any swimming pool supply shop has a good stock of covers for your swimming pool. Keep in mind that a well-covered swimming pool is a safe pool.

Getting the ideal swimming pool liner

The quality of your swimming pool liner is essential to your pool's water quality. This is because it prevents the water from being contaminated. It also maintains your water's pH, and helps keep algae and mildew from growing. Also consider the type of material used for your liner. Swimming pool liners are usually made with vinyl or plastic, and can be quite decorative.

Inground Swimming Pool Safety

The elegance of inground swimming pools attracts a lot of buyers. However, it is important to keep in mind that inground pools have their own safety risks. It is important to always have someone watch the pool such as a "lifeguard" or simply an adult who can swim. This is because children (and unmindful adults) have a higher tendency to fall into an inground swimming pool as opposed to an above ground swimming pool. It will help to keep your inground swimming pool covered when not in use, or fenced off in certain areas.

Safe swimming pool toys for added fun

While purchasing fun and colorful swimming pool toys can be exciting, there are some accessories that can be considered as a "must-have". Goggles are important, especially for children. There are also special swimming pool toys and floats available for toddlers. Swim aids such as swimming pool floats, swim belts, and water wings, are also considered as safe swimming pool toys. Your local swimming pool supply shops probably have a good toys department - take a look around in order to get the best prices.

Source: Free Articles

Understanding About Water Meter Flow Rate

There are many factors that you need to take into consideration in regards to water meter flow rate, and if you are truly wanting to learn and understand about water flow rate, then it is crucial for you to know that you have to take all of these factors in, and make sure that you seriously understand them.

For instance, many people do not know that you can measure irrigation with a water meter flow rate system, and this is in fact one of the most important jobs that a water meter flow rate system will ever do, and so it is thus obviously crucial that this matter be more learned about.

Basically, flow meters in general are particularly excellent devices for the measuring of flow in irrigation pipes, and the main parts consist of that of a propeller, one which is mounted in a short section of pipe and geared to a revolution counter, and which also is able to record the rate of flow and the cumulative total overall.

Overall, the basic principle of operation in regards to this device is quite simple, and what really happens is that the speed of the flow is measured by that of the water turning the propeller as it passes by, and then the particular area is then determined in regards to the size of the involved pipe.

Furthermore, since the flow meters work on a particular principle which involves that of a given rate of flow through a fixed area of pipe, then the pipe thus must be flowing full in order for you to gain accurate results.

Using the Internet as an Informational Resource

If you are looking to find out more information on a matter such as this, and are wondering what resources are available for you to use, you should know that there are many, however the best one without a doubt is that of the Internet; the speed and efficiency of the Internet allow you to quickly and easily find exactly what you are looking for, without hassle.

Simply spending twenty minutes for example on the Internet can help you incredulously, and you will walk away much more knowledgeable on the matter then you were before, without a doubt. Therefore, using the resources that are available to you is an incredibly important factor in regards to learning about and understanding a matter such as this.

Convert Your Car To Run On Water - Save Money, Save Gas!

Convert your car to run on water – save gas, save your car, save money and save the planet.

Fox News recently broadcasted an interesting and very important video report.
A savvy automobile owner has come up with a very simple yet incredibly efficient way of boosting his old car’s gas mileage by up to 100% - that means several thousands of dollars economy every year.

The creator claims that his developed invention converts water into a gas called HHO (2 Hydrogen + 1 Oxygen). Also called Brown's gas or Hydroxy burns better than regular gas at our fuel pumps and provides more energy. This process is often referred to as Hydrogen Fuel Cell conversion.

Gas prices are on constant rise and the fuel economy question is starting to get very serious. More hybrid cars are sold all over the world, concepts of electric cars and Hydrogen fuel cell cars are developed in almost any country and finally there is a way for you to add a little something to fuel efficient revolution.

Car owners seem to forget or maybe ignore the fact that they could get better gas mileage simply by changing the way they drive. You do not need to buy an ugly and slow prototype in order to save on gas. You could increase gas mileage of your V8 truck as well! To get better gas mileage you should follow these simple rules;

• Accelerate gently. This will use less gas.

• Keep your distance - every time you stop you will have to accelerate.

• Take your car to a mechanic; simple air filter change or spark plugs replacement could greatly increase gas mileage

• Drive slower. Going over 120kph will use up much more gas.

• Change gears as soon as possible - low gear uses up to 30% more fuel than needed.

Our cars’ engines are designed in such poor way that they only burn about 20% of the fuel – the other 80% is wasted in heat and unburned gas (pollution). When converted to money at 3$ a gallon – per every gallon your car actually uses only 60 cents, and 2.40$ is completely wasted. When you convert your car to run on water, you create a gas which helps burning the fuel in a better proportion.

Instructions on how to convert car to run on water are also available for sale on the Internet. There have been many skeptical people that do not believe in the efficiency of the system – but there doubts always vanish after finding out that the instructions come with 2 month full satisfaction money back guarantee.

Is it not only the “saving money” part that attracts people - when you convert your car to run on water you also increase your car’s engine longevity and you greatly decrease the pollution. The system allows you to burn gas more efficiently – which decreases the noise of the engine and the wear and tear of the motor’s parts.

The system is composed by simple parts that are basically bolted on the engine. It could be done at almost no cost, by anyone and to any car. The system is completely untraceable when taken off of the engine.

Just imagine yourself buying half the gas you are buying now! Wouldn’t it be nice to have an extra couple of thousand of dollars for Christmas presents? For a vacation? For a down payment on a new car?

I hope this article gave you enough of useful information to consider converting your car to run on water.
Alexandre Sol
Alexandre Sol is a writer who loves to review different programs available on the internet. Some people choose to leave their boat docked in the water while others will find a warm comfortable place to keep their boat away from the winter elements. Either way there are some things you will need to do to protect your boat. The following paragraphs describe how to properly store your boat for the winter.

Storing Your Boat on land

Storing your boat on land is the best way to keep it from the harshest elements of winter. It also prevents blisters from developing around the hull area as a result of water soaking into any laminated area beneath the waterline. You should disconnect the battery and keep it at home for ease of maintenance and for prevention against theft. Also, another advantage of taking your boat off the water is that you will be able to thoroughly clean the outside of the boat.

Leaving Your Boat On The Water

If you decide to keep your boat in the water during the winter, you will need to keep the battery running so that the bilge pump can continue to function if required. However, the first priority is to make sure that all valves have been tightly closed to protect the thru-hulls. If you neglect to do this, not only will your boat possibly sink, but you may have to spend a lot of money on repairs. The only thru-hull which should be kept open is the cockpit drain, but you should clamp it with a hose made of stainless steel.

If you know that your boat is likely to be subject to freezing temperatures over the winter, you'll need to use some kind of de-icing system or install some kind of bubble system. It's also important that you check on your boat every few weeks or so over the winter months. If you're not going to be around, try to arrange for someone to check on it for you.

On land and in the water

Whether you're keeping your boat in the water or bringing it ashore, you need to cover it completely with a proper boat canvas cover. Make sure that the cover fits snugly and is well maintained. You can also buy special mould and mildew bags and situate them around the interior of the boat. This will prevent the boat from collecting any unpleasant odors and it will make your cleaning the boat in the spring time much easier.

Author Resource:-> Victor Epand is an expert consultant about model boats, boat parts, and model submarines. Now that we have actually been able to send a rover there to explore the surface of this intriguing planet, we believe now that at least there is no visible life there. The testing done by the rover and the technical gadgets it is equipped has been taking soil and rock samples to see if there might be some sort of small lifeform or water.

One of the main things scientists wanted to know for sure other than are there any life forms on Mars is whether or not there is any water present just below the surface of the planet anywhere. Scientists firmly believe that water once flowed on this planet, but dried up on the surface long ago. In the water that is though to be beneath the ground is where scientists were hopeful that they might still find some form of life.

So far there has been no discovery of anything living. At least if there has been anything found alive the rest of us have not been told about it. One of therecent discoveries that have been made is when the rover detected snowfall in the Martian atmosphere. This is a welcome finding since it is associated with water. The snowfall and ice particles evidently were not making it to the ground surface, but it is intriguing for scientists none the less.

They have said they will continue to watch for more of the snow falling on the North Polar cap for as long as the rover is still working. Soon the sun will be setting for Mars and will not return until sometime in April. This means that the solar powered rover will stop working for good. The rover has already lasted longer than was expected and this is a good thing else the snowfall might not have been detected had the rover already shut down as scientists though it should have.

What all of this water on Mars business really has to do with all of us is still in question. It could mean more to our future generations and then again it could all amount to nothing except gaining knowledge about a far away place that none of us would ever have the opportunity to do to and would we want to even if we could?

<table border="0" width="600" cellpadding="5" down buildings, houses, and trees. It can bring up the nasty stuff in the sewer and bring it in your house. It can have gas, oil, and electric poles in it, which are dangerous for you. It can take the ground out from underneath you and make a big river of water that goes right through your town. It can tear apart your house by taking half of it or the whole thing at once; this is how bad it will get. Floods can destroy towns or even cities in a matter of minutes.

When you have bad weather and it has rained hard, it can cause a flood to grow from the rivers and creeks. It will go over the banks and flood the streets and fields and flood any house that is in its way. Floods can come from the ocean from a hurricane. It will bring high wind and a massive amount of water that can be coming from anywhere. It can knock down dams and water towers, and that will bring more water that will flood your house and take everything you have. It can take your cars and your big truck and move them right down the river of water. It can take it into the ocean or into another town or city.

The water is very strong, and nothing will stop it from happening or stop it when it has already begun. It can kill hundreds or thousands of people every time it hits. There will be injured and frightened people all over the place. It can carry a person down the river of water and suck them right under it, and their bodies can be found in other places or will never be found. Sometimes it can trap people on their roofs if it hasn't already taken it. They could be up there for days until someone comes and gets them from there. It can have electrical charges going through the water. You will want to stay out of the water and keep your kids away from it to so they don't get hurt or swiped away.

It can have toxins in it also from the waste that came from the sewers. It can get in your floors, walls, and in your yard after the water has rested. It will also cause a mud slide and that is dangerous, too.

Author Resource:-> Aydan Corkern is a writer of many topics, visit some of her sites, like

water damage orlando and Connecticut water damage restoration.

Article From Free Find Article Directory - Find Thousands of Articles<

Water Damage Emergency in Long Beach

Perhaps you were out to lunch at one of Long Beach’s restaurants along the ocean enjoying your company and the magnificent view. You are very happy you finally got out to spend the day with a close friend. Little did you know your fabulous day was about to turn ugly. You arrive back to your Long Beach home and see you had a pipe break and your house is flooded. How in the world did that happen? You call your husband and tell him to immediately come home. Too bad he is in another state for his job. He cannot leave as he has important meetings for the next few days.

You wonder what you are going to do? You cannot clean up this mess yourself as you haven’t the faintest clue where to begin and what to do. While speaking to your husband you both come up with the idea to check online for a reputable Long Beach company that can handle this horrific mess. You both are searching and come up with a few water restoration companies.

You each read over different companies while talking on the telephone. You cannot agree on which company to use. You both challenge each other to what each company offers. They both claim to offer the same type of service. Then you look at their recommendations. One company has a lot more recommendations with happy customers than the other. You both notice that this same company has the Better Business Bureau icon on the website, too. That company just sold the both of you and you end up calling them to take care of the water damage in your Long Beach home. The company can come to your house within twenty four hours which is imperative. You cannot leave water stagnant. Water that is clean and left over twenty four hours begins to grow all sorts of molds and bacteria. Both of which are not very pleasant nor good on your health.

The company from the Long Beach area comes to clean your home and extract the water that has invaded your living space. The company also uses high quality products to kill any bacteria or mold trying to multiply throughout the area. The products will also help prevent any future bacteria or mold from taking over your home. Your Long Beach house will look, feel, and smell as good as new before the water damaged occurred. No hidden fragrant sprays that will mask the odor underneath. The odor is eliminated entirely from your home. You are very thankful that this company took charge of the water damage. Things were handled beautifully even while your husband was out of town.

About the author:
Leo Nov is an editorial staff member of RestorationSOS.com, a leading service provider for water damage cleanups. If the boat is allowed to heel towards the wind, it will tend to turn downwind or bear away. In either ease some rudder movement will be needed to keep it on course, which will slow the boat down. Turn the boat using the wheel to the desired course to steer. This may be a definite bearing or towards a landmark, or at a desired angle to the apparent wind direction.Trim fore and aft - The distribution of crew weight fore and aft is just as important as balancing the boat.

To learn the techniques you should always practice. Shifting your weight towards the wind will always help. In other words, that means moving forward in the boat when sailing to windward and moving aft when sailing downwind.
The aim is to adjust the position of the crew forwards or backwards to achieve an 'even keel'. On an upwind course in a small boat, the crew typically sit forward, when 'running' it is more efficient for the crew to sit to the rear of the boat.

The position of the crew matters less as the size (and weight) of the boat increasesSail setting - A sail should be pulled in until it fills with wind, but no further than the point where the front edge of the sail (the luff) is exactly in line with the wind. As a guide, you will find that any sail, whether jib, mainsail or spinnaker, will set best by letting out until it starts to flap gently along the leading edge, then pulled in just enough to stop that flapping.Centreboard - As well as driving a yacht forward, the action of the wind on the sails will push it sideways across the water - this is known as making leeway.

To prevent this, the yacht needs more grip on the water, which is provided by a centreboard daggerboard or keel. The difference is simple. A centreboard will pivot around the bolt in its case; a daggerboard is moved vertically up and down In some older yachts you might find a metal board, referred to as a centreplate, all three do the same job. If a moveable centreboard is fitted, then it should be lowered when sailing "close to the wind" but can be raised up on downwind courses to reduce drag. While they may still carry some of the sexual connotation of the 1960's, for many people a waterbed provides unparalleled comfort. These innovative creations are quite different from the average mattress, with significant advantages and disadvantages. You'd be wise to at least contemplate a waterbed for your next bedroom purchase. Here is a basic primer on what to expect when you begin your shopping.Modern waterbeds consist of a number of chambers, as opposed to traditional models that only held one.

The advantage of separating the water into several chambers is the reduction of the "wave" effect. After the natural state of the water was disturbed, these single chamber waterbeds took at least a few seconds to return to normal. This problem has largely been solved with the introduction of multiple chambers.

The other key characteristic of a waterbed is the ability to heat the entire surface. With the temperature being controlled by a thermostat, the user can set the bed to the specific degree that he or she desires. The most common temperature is 86 degrees (the average temperature of human skin). This feature is especially useful in the dead of winter. Many people save money on their heating bills by jacking up the temperature of their waterbed while lowering the thermostat responsible for controlling the heat of the entire house. Doctors also agree that sleeping on a warmer surface lowers a person's blood pressure, while also aiding in muscle relaxation.
Though to some degree comfort is a subjective matter of taste and opinion, many users find that waterbeds are significantly more comfortable than normal mattresses. To a large degree, this is due to the fact that they take pressure off of the spine, because the entire body rests on the mattress rather than simply the spinal cord. That's why some doctors recommend the purchase of a waterbed to their patients with arthritis or other bone problems.

At the same time, there are some disadvantages directly linked to what makes waterbeds so great. For one thing, heating a waterbed doesn't come cheaply: depending on climate (among other things), a waterbed can use more than 1000 kWh per year. To be sure, this should be weighed against the prospect of heating an entire home while sleeping, which may be unnecessary when sleeping in a waterbed.

Another thing to think about is assembly and disassembly. Whereas with a normal mattress you simply lug it up the stairs and place it in the desired spot, in contrast a waterbed requires a significant amount of time to fill, especially if you're far from the nearest water source. Looked at from another angle, this could be an advantage, however. Before filling, your new bed will be very easy to transport. Make sure that you consult with the person who built your house, however, because some second stories cannot support a waterbed.

Buying a mattress is an important decision. After all, you spend almost half your time in bed! Next time you're in the market, give a waterbed a shot. It may change your life!

spa in a box

6 Foot Spa-N-A-Box

6 Foot Spa-N-A-Box

Rain Gear – the Right Type Makes All the Difference

<img alt="Born Wild Tiger T-shirt - When maximum warmth and dryness are the goal, non-breathable rain gear is the top choice.
It holds in all body heat, while keeping outside moisture from penetrating. On the other hand, when you find yourself in need of rain protection during times of strenuous activity such as jogging or vigorous cycling, breathable rain gear is a great choice. Breathable rain gear has moisture transfer qualities. It allows the fabric to move accumulating body moisture from the inside of the fabric to the outside. You stay dry inside and out.

When the unexpected rain shower suddenly appears, you want a quality, lightweight, smart fitting and easy-to-get-to piece of rain gear in your day pack, saddle bag, fanny pack or backpack. Rain gear that doesn’t take up precious space is the sportsperson’s best friend. At the first hint of rain, you can have immediate protection, keeping your clothing dry as the downpour continues. Your rain gear pants, jacket and helmet cover will shed the rain, keeping you dry, warm and comfortable underneath.
It’s like having an instant tent!

Without proper rain gear protection, you may arrive at your destination soaking wet. It’s easy to understand how uncomfortable and inconvenient this would be. With proper rain gear protection you will save yourself time, and avoid the frustration and discomfort of wet clothes. Imagine how uncomfortable it would be to find yourself in the middle of a bike ride, a golf game, a leisurely walk or hike when an unexpected rain shower begins. You suddenly realize that you are without quality rain gear protection. You would find yourself at the mercy of the elements, and soon would be wearing clothing that was soaking wet. Ugh!

You might find yourself on the fourth green preparing for that important putt for par when the rains suddenly begin. You reach into your golf bag and pull out your lightweight rain gear and within moments you are warm and dry. You comfortably line up your putt and sink it. A little rain isn’t going to stop you from enjoying yourself.

With proper rain gear, you can easily and instantly slip into waterproof clothing. Rain gear such as waterproof pants and jackets will help you continue on your way, confident in knowing that the rest of your trek, ride, game, walk, or camping experience will not be ruined by continuing showers or intermittent downpours. In addition, the best rain gear offers the added advantage of making your ride, walk, or trip a safer one with its reflective patches that warn auto traffic of your presence at night and in low visibility situations.

The best rain gear offers the great advantage of being both lightweight and compact. It takes up very little space in your backpack, saddle bag, golf bag, day pack or purse. Because it is completely waterproof, shedding all water, it dries out quickly. Saltwater pearls are produced by oysters in the ocean, while freshwater pearls come from mussels growing in lakes, rivers or ponds other than the ocean. These mollusks create a substance called nacre when an irritant object enters its shell. The nacre will wrap around the object until it is covered with this iridescent substance, and the resulting gem is known today as a pearl.Maybe you have heard of the term natural pearls and cultured pearls. Natural pearls are created without human intervention, while cultured pearls are produced by a process where man will introduce a foreign object inside the mollusks' shell, and harvests it after nacre coating. Due to over fishing, the pearls produced the natural way are very rare. Most pearls that you can find in the market today are already cultured.Have you ever wondered how freshwater cultured pearls began? Thousands of years ago, most pearls came exclusively from the ocean. However, not all oysters have produced a pearl inside. In a harvest of three tons, only about three or four oysters can produce a perfect pearl. That is why the pearls at that time were outrageously expensive.

So scientists thought of a way to culture pearls, and they found out that if they will pry open the shell of the mussel, introduce a very small object (like a bead or a metal), then return the mussel in the water, it will also coat the object with nacre and produce a pearl.

The first cultured pearls actually originated in Japan, with pearl farmers experimenting with freshwater mussels in Lake Biwa which is a lake near Kyoto. Their initial harvest appeared around 1930s. Instantly, the freshwater pearl became a big hit! The luster and color looked almost the same as the natural pearls, but the prices are lower and the supply is continuous.

Unfortunately there was a slump in the production of pearls during World War II, but in the 1950s they were back again in the market. Because of its success, almost all of the supplies for the global market came from the lake. In fact, some people already call freshwater pearls as "Biwas" referring to the lake where it originated.

This went on until 1973. But there were warning signs of slow production due to the resorts, farms and industries that were developed surrounding the lake. Soon the pearl farms in Biwa were barely surviving due to the pollution from industrial modernization. Then there came a time when no more pearls can be cultured in this lake. Added to that was Japanese disadvantage of not having a big lake or river to shift their production, and this was coupled with a smaller workforce.

Because of this, China saw the opportunity to culture freshwater pearls. Indeed, they began to flood the market with abundant pearls, having good quality and inexpensive too! The Chinese pearl farmers have also learned to develop and perfect cultured pearl with increased size and improved luster. Now they are the biggest supplier of the worldwide demand for freshwater pearls.

<img width='1' height='1'
